You'll have enough on your mind when you go to the hospital for weight loss surgery. There are a few things that you will need for the hospital (and many more things that you don't). We've learned from personal experience as well as from hundreds of you all that have chimed in. Having everything ready to go will help make your stay more comfortable!

What to Pack for the Hospital
• Comfortable clothes that you can easily move around in (nothing tight or binding). Pack light option: Consider using the same outfit to arrive at and leave the hospital.

• A robe or nightgown - something lightweight and comfortable. Walking the halls of the hospital is critical for releasing gas and helping with pain. Hospital gowns are famous for leaving your hiney out. Pack light option: Ask for another hospital gown to put over the first. You can wear it like a robe with the opening in the front. Bonus: less laundry when you return home. Here's one to try.

• Slippers or flip flops (hospital floors are cold!)

• Underwear, bra (consider a front-closing one), socks - make sure they’re comfortable, and only bring enough for the time you plan to be in the hospital.

• Your phone and a charger. Download a game and a movie if you must. You won't have time for much entertainment.

• Your well-packed toiletry bag. Deodorant, lip balm, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, hairbrush, hair ties, facial cleanser, and moisturizer. Any personal hygiene items you may need. Pack light: Remember hospitals will be prepared if you get your period. They'll have pads. They'll also have toiletries if you forget something. If push comes to shove, you can send someone to the hospital gift shop.

• Your medications. Bring them in the original pharmacy bottles. Your pre-op nurse will let you know which medicines you should discontinue and which ones you should bring with you. Don't hesitate to ask if you forget or they don't tell you.

• Your CPAP machine and other medical devices. Check with your pre-op nurse to make sure that you need to bring your devices. Don't forget the cords and accessories.

Leave at Home
• Personal Documents and Valuables - Leave those with someone you trust. You can focus on healing and not protecting your valuables.

• Electronics (besides your phone) - You will not have time to use them in the hospital.

• Large Bags – Save those for your next vacation.
